Mercedes 280SL Pagoda
The 1969 Mercedes-Benz 280 SL Pagoda is a classic car known for its timeless design and advanced engineering for its time. The 280 SL comes with a 2.8-liter inline-six-cylinder engine, producing around 170 horsepower. It had mechanical fuel injection, known as Bosch mechanical fuel injection (MFI). The 280 SL featured a sophisticated independent rear suspension, which provides a comfortable and stable ride. The iconic “Pagoda” nickname comes from the car’s unique concave hardtop with a distinctive shape resembling the curved roof of a pagoda.
It also has a soft-top for convertible driving. Safety features includes a strong monocoque chassis, crumple zones, and Mercedes’ reputation for engineering robust vehicles. The interior boasted high-quality materials, leather seats, wood trim, and a classic instrument cluster. The 280 SL has respectable performance for its era, with a 0-60 mph time in the 9-second range and a top speed of around 120 mph. The Pagoda model was produced from 1963 to 1971, and the 280 SL was the final version of this series. Today, the 280 SL Pagoda is highly sought after by collectors due to its combination of classic style and advanced engineering.
