Faster, lighter and more extreme Aventador caught completely undisguised ahead of an expected world debut at the Geneva show in March.
These are the spy shots that Lamborghini didn’t want you to see – well, not yet at least. Caught completely undisguised, in full production trim, this is the new hardcore Lamborghini Aventador SV expected to explode on to the scene at the Geneva Motor Show in March.
The last time we saw the SV name was on the earth-shaking Murcielago LP670-4 SV, launched at the 2009 Geneva show, and the 1994 Diablo SV before that. The ‘SV’ badge stands for ‘Super Veloce’ and denotes the ultimate version of whichever model it adorns.
Photographed during a commercial photo shoot, possibly to capture press or brochure material for its upcoming launch, the Aventador’s already brutish styling has been taken up several notches with the addition of a huge carbon-fibre rear wing, an entirely new rear end with a larger diffuser and other carbon panels around the slatted engine cover, side sills and vents.
The front end has also been sharpened up with a double layer spoiler and larger blacked-out air intakes. An SV sticker sits just ahead of the rear wheel arch, with a badge denoting the exact model name just underneath. Unfortunately, it’s impossible to read, leaving us to speculate what monstrous engine will be under the skin.
Like the Murcielago SV, which featured a tuned version of the standard car’s 6.5-litre V12 (with 30bhp more for a total of 663bhp), expect the ultimate Aventador to receive a power boost from 690bhp to something approaching 750bhp from its naturally-aspirated 6.5-litre V12. Power will be sent to all four wheels through a tweaked seven-speed automated manual gearbox, and expect a 0-62mph time of around 2.8 seconds with a top speed in the region of 220mph.
Key to the SV’s outrageous performance will be a strict diet cutting around 100kg from the 1,575kg kerbweight, bigger brakes and lowered, stiffened suspension. A revised exhaust system will push the legal limits of how loud a road car can be.
