Champagne in the seats, perfume in the doors: Bentley’s 2016 Mulliner Flying Spur range revealed

Bentley’s opulent Flying Spur saloon not quite opulent (or expensive) enough for you? Fear not, help is at well-manicured hand as Bentley’s Mulliner division has announced its latest range of bespoke customisation options designed specifically for the Flying Spur.

Remind me, what exactly is Mulliner?

Bentley’s in-house customisation department. If you’re after something over and above the million or so combination of trims and options already available for the Flying Spur, they’re the craftspeople you’ll need to talk to.

Okay, what kind of options are we talking about here?

Here’s a rundown of a few highlights from the new-for-2016 Mulliner collection:

Refrigerated bottle cooler:
Because warm Bollinger just won’t do, you can now spec your Flying Spur with a chilled compartment behind the middle rear seat back, hidden behind a motorised frosted glass panel.

There’s space inside for a canted champagne bottle and two special champagne flutes, with bases designed to look like Bentley wheels, behind frosted glass. Bentley claims each cooler unit takes 15 hours to manufacture by hand.

Sterling silver atomisers:
Mulliner has redesigned the Flying Spur’s rear doors to accommodate a set of polished silver spray bottles within their trim, so a refreshing mist of perfume or water is always within easy reach. A recommended list of fragrances is yet to be disclosed, but probably won’t include Lynx Africa.

Hide-trimmed stowage boxes:
Need somewhere to stow your cufflinks? Spec the centre console with a rear stowage compartment for oddments, complete with a watch holder for your Timex. There’s a choice of interior hides; in case you’re stuck for choice, Mulliner ‘suggests the compartment is trimmed with an unexpected burst of colour – for example, Mandarin “Hidden Delights” hide.’

Painted veneers:
Colours from Bentley’s exterior paint range are now available for the interior, so you can contrast whichever leather hide you’ve chosen with a broader range of painted veneers, polished by lamb’s wool to a mirror shine.
