Aston Martin Vulcan to star at Coventry Motofest
An Aston Martin Vulcan will make its first appearance on a UK public road when it headlines this year’s Coventry Motofest event on 4-5 June.
The £1.8m track-focused hypercar – one of only 24 examples in the world – will perform demonstration laps of a closed loop of the Coventry ring road, driven by Scottish racing driver Peter Dumbreck.
Its appearance is part of a big Aston Martin presence at the event. Other Astons on display include a V8 Vantage S, DB9, V12 Vantage and Vanquish.
The Aston Martin Owners Club will run a range of vehicles including a DBS, DB9, a V8 Vantage, Vanquish, GT12 and a couple of pre-war cars in demonstration laps on the ring road circuit.
Festival director James Noble said: “We are incredibly excited to have the Aston Martin Vulcan taking part in this year’s Coventry Motofest.
“It will be a fantastic occasion as the Vulcan runs on a public road circuit for the first time in the UK, offering the crowds at Coventry Motofest the chance to get a unique close up look at this amazing car.
“We are very thankful to Aston Martin for allowing this opportunity with the Vulcan and for other elements of the weekend involving the Grange dealership and Aston Martin Owners Club and we look forward to creating another incredible spectacle at Coventry Motofest.”
The Aston Martin Vulcan is scheduled to appear in two slots on the long track programme on both Saturday and Sunday of the festival weekend.
Coventry’s Motofest is a two-day celebration of the city’s motoring heritage and incorporates a range of automotive activities such as racing and demonstration events to static displays and fringe events for cars, bikes and other vehicles.
This year’s Motofest will incorporate a second circuit in addition to the ring road course. A new short oval track will be created at Moat Street car park, close to junction 7 of the ring road. It will host drift cars, stunt cars and stock cars.
One of the headline acts will be 12 cars from the UK Formula G Championship, which showcases ‘gymkhana’ racing, in which drivers must navigate their way around a series of obstacles from monster truck tyres, to slaloms and washing machines.
Also appearing will be BriSCA F1 and F2 stock cars and a range of drift cars including Coventry-based organisation Slip Wheel.
