'Fastback' McLaren 570S GT spotted ahead of 2016 release
New images of McLaren’s more practical 570S reveal tweaked look, with more space and possibly a 2+2 cabin layout.
McLaren revealed to Auto Express back in April that we’d be seeing a ‘GT’ version of the 570S sports car in 2016. And now new spy images have emerged of the more spacious model limbering up.
Expected in the first half of next year, the 570S GT will feature a fastback-style rear end design in place of the exposed engine cover and concave rear screen of the 570S Coupe. The more flowing rear-end can be seen in the car in these pictures, with a taller roof, longer side windows and bigger rear screen.
The GT will offer additional luggage space, helping it compete against cars such as the Aston Martin Vanquish. Rumours suggest the 570S GT may also receive two occasional rear seats behind the front chairs, although don’t expect anything other than small children to squeeze inside.
An alternative to this could be a separate storage area behind the front seats, but we’ll get the full lowdown at some point early on next year. It’s expected that the GT model will only be available with the standard 562bhp V8 engine, but eventually we will see a long-tail LT version of the 570S coupé – along similar lines to the 675 LT.
Once the coupe and GT models are established, the 570S Spider will arrive – some time in 2017 – with a similar folding hard top to its bigger brother, the 650S Spider.
