Mercedes SUV spied testing in UK

Mercedes-Benz’s rival to the BMW X6 has been spotted testing in the UK ahead of it 2015 launch.

Essentially, a sleeker, sportier version of the next ML 4×4, the car was previewed by the Concept Coupé SUV at April’s Beijing motor show.
At the time Mercedes said the concept provided a realistic glimpse of a future production vehicle. And while the UK test car was heavily disguised, it clearly features the same plunging roofline and bluff front-end styling.

The fact that testing is being carried out in the UK is encouraging, because it suggests Mercedes engineers are tuning the car’s suspension to suit our poorly maintained roads.

Expect a starting price of around £45,000, and an engine range that includes 250 and 350 Blutec diesels, a twin-turbo 3.0-litre V6 petrol and a 5.5-litre AMG V8.

A nine-speed automatic gearbox and Mercedes’ 4Matic four-wheel-drive system are likely to be standard across the range.
