What’s this hardcore Cayman prototype?

Is Porsche readying a Cayman even faster than the lovely GT4? A (slightly) camo-clad prototype of what looks like a track-spec version of the mid-engined two-seater has been spotted at the Monza race circuit in Italy, sending the TG office into collective overdrive.

You’ll notice that the Cayman has more aggressive rubber wrapped around lightweight racing wheels, wider side pods to feed the engine with more air, a bigger rear wing and new front and rear bumpers.

And unless our ears mistake us, the camo Cayman is packing a freer-flowing exhaust system, too, its flat-six sounding fruitier than ever.

The prototype looks to sit even lower than the Cayman GT4, while the way it ricochets itself off Monza’s monstrous kerbs indicates a stiffer suspension set-up.

Looks closely and you’ll see the prototype is sporting a rollcage: something the driver was probably thankful for as he lost control and dropped the car into the gravel at the 50-second mark.
